Teachers Network Awards Ceremony

WHO: 100 of New York City’s most creative and innovative public school teachers are being honored in the first annual Teachers Network Awards Ceremony for outstanding contributions to education and student achievement. All of the honorees are participants in Teachers Network programs: IMPACT II, TeachNet or the Teachers Network Policy Institute (TNPI).

Dr. Charlotte Frank, former New York State Regent and currently Senior Vice President of Research and Development at McGraw-Hill, will host the event.

WHAT: Superintendents, principals and teachers from the five boroughs will be in attendance to support and honor those NYC public school teachers who have become leaders in their classrooms and schools, and have significantly improved student learning and achievement. Selected award-winning teachers will make content presentations at the event. Exemplary curriculum programs will be showcased in the 2002-2003 Teachers Network Catalog of Award-Winning Programs By Teachers, For Teachers in NYC Public Schools.

WHEN: Tuesday, November 12 (4:30-7 P.M.)

WHY: IMPACT II: Offers grants to local public school teachers in the areas of science, math and technology.

TeachNet: Launched in 1998 to bring new media into the classroom by encouraging the adaptation of web-based curriculum units.

TNPI: Enables teachers to have a voice in education policymaking. The NYC branch comprises 30 TNPI MetLife Fellows who conduct action research, meet with influential policymakers, and study relevant literature to help define and ensure teacher quality.

HOW: New York City-based Teachers Network, www.teachersnetwork.org, has been working for more than 20 years to support and connect innovative teachers through grants and networking opportunities in the areas of curriculum, leadership, policy and new media. Teachers Network’s community of educators is linked nationwide by 25 affiliated organizations including foundations, public school systems, and several state education departments.
